The historic vineyard of Saint-Emilion

Château La Serre is located in the heart of Saint-Emilion, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999, with its wine-growing landscapes. This city and its vineyards are living proofs of this wine culture. built centery after century with multiple influences, marking their landscapes, homes and monuments.

Today, the region benefiting from the Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée Saint-Emilion is limited to the North by a watercourse, La Barbanne, to the East by the slopes of Castillon and to the South by the plain of Dordogne. In the North-West, it is the plateau of Pomerol. Therefore the appellation covers a very large area with notable variations in altitude and a great diversity of basements (there are at least 17 major types).

Château La Serre enjoys a doubly exceptional location. It is on the one hand in the center of the protected historic area, but it is also and especially on one of the best, if not the best, subsoil of the appellation, the limestone plateau.

Land of great wines

Thus it is in the East and a few tens of meters of the ramparts of Saint-Emilion village that the 7 hectares composing the vineyard of Château La Serre spread out.

The vineyard is located precisely on the plateau of "les menuts", limestone with starfish surmounted by a thin soil, with a shallow depth of rooting (a few tens of centimeters) naturally limiting the amount of water available. The southern exposure ideally completes this natural advantage.

The vineyard is made up of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, renewed on a regular basis to maintain an average age of 35 years. This varietal configuration, geology and unique climate makes Château La Serre a truly exceptional terroir.
